The Florida Coalition of Black Faith and community Based Organizations (FCOBFCBO) was founded in 1999 by Herman K. Williams, as a non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote family and community development in distressed Black communities throughout the State of Florida. The Coalition seeks to organize a state wide network of social and human service providers, through training and capacity-building projects, that will better equip Black faith-based and community-based organizations to engage collaboratively in addressing community needs. Black and minority communities across the state face innumerable socio-economic problems that adversely impact their standard of living.
There were fifteen (15) inaugural members of the Coalition, which include faith-based leaders from Brookville, Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, Ft. Pierce, Gainesville, Ocala, Tampa, Vero Beach and Williston.
The Coalition merged with the Family Christian Association of America, Inc. in July 2002 for FCAA to serve as the umbrella organization for the state wide Coalition.
FCAA assumed responsibility for researching and developing resources for the Coalition's members to collaborate with other organizations to effect socio-economic change. Additionally, FCAA will assist the Coalition's members in developing funding resources to help facilitate the training, organizing and planning process that is needed for capacity building.
